Jessica White in SI 2009 - Swimsuit Model

Continuing the celebration of Black History Month and the release of the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, we celebrate the woman of color that is supermodel Jessica White. This Buffalo, NY native has been modeling since the age of 14, giving her a 10 year career in the business of being, well, unearthly hot. Beyond her work for brands like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Vogue and Sports Illustrated, White has also done a bit of acting in her day– in films, music videos and television. Its no surprise that Sports Illustrated wanted this ebony goddess back for yet another year in their Swimsuit Issue.

Jessica White first appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2003. Also appearing in 2004 and 2005 she became the first African-American model to be featured in three consecutive editions of the Swimsuit Issue. She is also the only model to appear on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover in a body painting, as an inset.

Jessica White, 21, traveled from her hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., to NYC at 14 where she was discovered in an IMTA competition. Jessica moved to Paris and did shows for Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta and others. She has appeared in Harper's Bazaar, Teen Vogue and Vogue Italia and in campaigns for Cover Girl, Maybelline, Chloe and Gap. She's the first African-American model to appear in six Swimsuit Issues.
